Notes from the President:

Volume IV – April 17, 2008

This newsletter finds all of us track coaches are going crazy trying to keep up with meets, practices, lineups, etc.  Before we know it….entries will be due for the IHSAA State Tournament Series.  Here are a few notes for you as I serve as your president of the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches (IATCCC) to further help inform you of your association and the events that impact our great sport.

May IATCCC Sectional Council Meeting

Our quarterly IATCCC State Coaches Clinic will be Sunday, May 4th at Lawrence Central High School.  Information is on the web site for times, etc.

Academic All State    Nominations due - Tuesday, May 6 for Girls - Wednesday, May 7 for Boys

Coaches…I had more phone calls from this last fall than any other topic.  The information is on the IATCCC web site along with all of the deadlines.  If your kid does not get on the academic all state lists because you did not send it in, then I am going to tell those moms and dads to call you, the coach, because you did not get the job done.  If you do send stuff in, please document this electronically.  If we make the mistake, then please let us know.  But I will say this…every mistake last fall was from coaches not meeting deadlines.  Academic All State is due when your sectional entry is due.  I hate being a mean guy, but come on coaches, let’s recognize our student athletes.  Also please don’t forget ICGSA members, you have a similar procedure to recognize our girls.  A talented young lady might be named to two different lists, how great is that! Go to www.iatccc.org  Direct Link to Nomination Form

Polls

Please visit our web site to find the current state rankings.  Your input is welcome for our compilers.  Please contact them if you have a team in your area who is not being recognized in our polls.  That is exactly why it is called a coaches poll, the input comes from you the coach.  Sean McGinley does the girls poll and Dick Shenfeld does the boys poll.  Both links are on the web site. Thanks in advance.   www.iatccc.org

Indoor Track

The Hoosier State Relays Finals were held on Saturday, March 22nd.   What a great meet at IU….congratulations to all of your athletes who made the finals and won medals.  We had great work from the Lawrence and Fishers guys and a whole bunch of others. On behalf of all coaches statewide…THANKS!!!

Hall of Fame

If you nominate someone for the IATCCC Hall of Fame, remember….we must have contact information about your nominee.  This is huge, please help us.  We are looking for the contact information for Phil Hostetler who coached at Westview….if you have this, please contact Julie Alano at jalano@hse.k12.in.us thanks.

Electronic Entry for the IHSAA

The IHSAA will use electronic entries for the IHSAA State Tournament Series this spring.  Please follow the directions.  We are hopeful this will work better than in years past.  This will save an enormous amount of work for the host schools and the names, etc should be correct as the coach has entered.  Translation: if your athlete’s information is not correct the chances are you, the coach made the mistake.

Indiana All Stars

Coaches of Seniors, please help us put the best team possible on the track in Michigan at the Midwest Meet of Champions this summer.  Our boys’ team is the defending champions. Make sure you check out the web site and help us get your senior on the all star team.  At most schools, this is huge.  Many recognize their track all star kids the same way the basketball, football, and other all stars are recognized with trophy case pictures and such.  Please promote this honor to your seniors and, should they be named, please help follow through to get your young athlete to the Midwest Meet of Champions.  Thanks.  Again, all information is at

www.iatccc.org

Have a great spring,
