Notes from the President:

Volume III – January 8, 2008

I can’t believe that it’s 2008 and we are back at school and……..track is right around the corner.  I will continue to send these notes out to you from time to time serving as your president of the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches (IATCCC) to further help inform you of your association and the events that impact our great sport.

IATCCC State Coaches Clinic

Our annual IATCCC State Coaches Clinic will be Thursday, January 31 through Saturday, February 2 at the Sheraton, Keystone at the Crossing.  Information is on the web site for registration.

The Clinic will be a great experience….we have revamped the Friday afternoon rules clinic to include our State Coach of the Year Awards …and more! Don’t miss it!

  • Coaches of sprints & hurdles will want to attend all of Charles Clinton’s sessions – this will be the best of the best! (5 of them --- 1 Thursday night & 4 on Friday)
  • Throws coaches have another top lineup ready with Larry Judge and John Smith
  • Jump coaches will want to hear Davyd Cash of Ben Davis in his two jump sessions
  • Distance coaches will get some great tips from Greg Miller, hear one our of our new collegiate distance coaches (Butler – Matt Roe) and hear from the coach of our national cross country champion – Tim Beres
  • Vault coaches:  Bob McClintock from Dwenger will help you greatly with vaulting program needs – vault coaches from Fort Wayne are continuing their greatness!
  • And the other speakers will give you a lot of information:  Media info from Brett Hess, injury prevention/treatment from Dr. Steve Simons, getting a T&F program moving to great heights from Mike Davidson of Ben Davis, getting involved with our organization from Joni Sanders, hearing from many high school coaches in the panel discussions, and we will have a couple sessions led by a moderator in what we are calling open sessions on specific events/topics.

Go to the IATCCC web site for updates on the schedule of speakers

Cutoff date for hotel reservations @ the IATCCC rate is Jan 15 @ 5 pm!!!!
The IATCCC needs you to stay @ the Sheraton Keystone.  For us to get the hotel we have a sliding scale of what we pay for our speaking rooms – this can amount to thousands of dollars if we don’t get enough coaches to stay.  We need to fill a lot of hotel rooms to help us with this – they have nice rooms & you’re right there for the action!

Mike Fout - Foot Locker Cross Country National Champion

Mike Fout (LaPorte), Tito Medrano (Lafayette Jeff) and Alex Banfich (Culver Academies) earned trips to San Diego for the venerable Foot Locker National Championships.  All three competed at Balboa Park’s famous 5000 meter layout and did us all proud.  Mike Fout was a convincing winner of the boy’s race.  Fout is Indiana’s first Foot Locker National Champion.  Congratulations!!!  Results are at www.dyestat.com

Indoor Track

The Hoosier Relays Finals will be on Saturday, March 22nd.  This is as close to an indoor state championship as we have.  Qualifying info is on our web site www.iatccc.org
